the weight loss trifecta
I’m not really comfortable talking too many details about my weight. I’ve been on the weight-loss rollercoaster before and while I’m certain I’ve finally taken my last ride, I am still processing how it all happened, how I didn’t even realize I was getting fat until I was way too fat, and how I can make sure it doesn’t happen again.
I guess I’m still ashamed that I was a fat girl for so long.
Losing weight was fairly easy for me, especially this year, due to what I joke about as the “weight loss trifecta”: eating right, breastfeeding, and Weight Watchers.
I’ve done Weight Watchers since 2007 — I took a break in 2009/2010 for pregnancy and post-partum, and restarted in April of this year. It was easy for me because through their points system, I learned about healthier choices, portion control and planning. Also, as a breastfeeding mom, I was burning a lot of extra calories so I got a couple extra points to work with. I rarely felt deprived. I also loved that I could earn activity points for working out, which gave me a tangible motivator for getting out for a walk or out to the gym.
I am now more or less at my goal weight. In the four years since I started this adventure, I have lost 62 pounds and gone down six dress sizes.
Do you know what weighs 62 pounds? A humongous baby, one of these golden retrievers, one cubic foot of water, an inflated rowboat sold in 1948, and a whole fucking canoe.
And the sixty-two pounds of fat I’m not carrying around anymore.
